About Troop 18

The Troop

Founded in 1947, Boy Scout Troop 18 is an "ACTIVE" family oriented troop that serves the Gateway and Lehigh area of Lee County, Florida.  The troop today is small, though it has been large at times in its history. While we slow down a bit in the summer we try to stay busy year round. We love camping and go on several camp outs a year. With many outdoor activities planned, we seem to accomplish the needs of the camping and backpacking enthusiasts. Troop 18 regularly attends Camporees and the Broke Back Dog Challenge. We also enjoy hiking, canoeing, and swimming.

Troop 18 practices many traditional scouting skills such as following trail signs. This is in addition to the contemporary scouting program. This is some thing that many troops no longer offer.

The Troop does several conservation / community service projects during the year. These include a beach clean up day, helping with hurricane preparedness and food drives

Since scouting is boy led, the boys take part in training others, planning the activities, cooking, cleaning, and do, well, just about anything else that needs doing.

At Troop18:

We believe firmly that each boy in the troop is vital.
We take pride in what we accomplish individually, in patrols and as a whole.
Learning leadership skills is one of the most important parts of being a Boy Scout
We believe in learning while doing, and that boys should have fun.
